Brief description: loop trail to Lake Sorapis, one of the most beautiful places in the Dolomites.

Lake Sorapìs is undoubtedly the most popular destination for hikers visiting Cortina d’Ampezzo. Regretfully, the upload of photos and other information posted on social media have resulted in streams of people visiting it. Since I staunchly believe that the mountains ought to be visited in silence, solitude and with utmost respect for nature, I propose an alternative solution to visit this enchanting place, leaving very early in the morning and taking a different route on the way back.

Lake Sorapìs is located at an altitude of 1.923m (6310 ft), at the edge of the Sorapìs Circus, one of the most spectacular and grandiose geomorphological structures of glacial origin in the Dolomites. It is nestled in a rugged lunar landscape, surrounded by screes and boulders, all arising from the shifting of quaternary glaciers. This small body of water has a shallow basin and splendid turquoise coloring due to limestone deposits contained in its water.
